Thomas Whetham
Thomas Whetham was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1624.
Whetham was the son of John Whetham of Drimpton, Dorset and his wife Edith Peare. He became Recorder of Chichester.〔(Catherine Durning Whetham and William Cecil Dampier Whetham ''A History of the Life of Colonel Nathaniel Whetham'' 1907 )〕 In 1624, he was elected Member of Parliament for Chichester.〔(Browne Willis ''Notitia parliamentaria, or, An history of the counties, cities, and boroughs in England and Wales: ... The whole extracted from mss. and printed evidences'' 1750 pp176-239 )〕 He may have been elected MP for Chichester in 1621 for the preceding parliament.〔Browne Willis gives that MP's name as Thomas Whaleman. Another source gives Thomas Whatman〕
Whetham married Dorothy Hooper at Burstock on 15 November 1586.〔(Parish of Burstock marriages 1563-1812 )〕 They had five sons including Nathaniel who was a parliamentary commander in the Civil War.〔
